Richard McGill Murphy

Richard McGill Murphy is the editor in chief of ServiceNow’s global thought leadership team. A journalist and social anthropologist by background, he runs a research and publishing program that covers emerging tech and business strategy trends for an audience of business leaders.

During his journalism career, Richard reported on business, tech, global affairs and lifestyle for many outlets, including Fortune, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Town&Country, CNBC, and VH1. He served as editor in chief of Fortune Small Business magazine, managing editor of McKinsey’s Voices on Society, and editorial and program director at the Committee to Protect Journalists. Richard studied literature at Harvard College. He earned a doctorate in social anthropology from Oxford University based on fieldwork in Pakistan, where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
